The Department of Kazakh and Russian Languages

 

Modern conditions for the development of Kazakhstani society pose new challenges for higher education. The higher education system should prepare not only an educated person, but also a citizen, a patriot of his country. And in this regard, the role of humanitarian education, which shapes a person’s worldview, is great. Humanities education is more than in demand today. The facets of humanities education intersect with history, economics, linguistics, and psychology.

The history of the department of Kazakh and Russian languages begins in 1990: this year the department of the Kazakh language was created at the Tselinograd Agricultural Institute. In 2012, two departments - 1) Kazakh language and 2) Russian and German languages - were transformed into the department of Kazakh and Russian languages.

Since 2019, the successful management of the department of Kazakh and Russian languages has been carried out by candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor Ardak Shaikenovna Tleulesova.

In a short time, a lot of organizational work has been carried out, and a high-quality educational and methodological training base has been prepared. The leadership of the department, through personal example and enthusiasm, contributes to the development of the scientific potential of the department.

Currently, the teaching staff of the department is represented by teachers of different generations, making a worthy contribution to the development of humanities education not only at the department, but also at the faculty and at the university as a whole.

The formation of the department is also facilitated by the membership of teachers in the Academies of Sciences. The International and Republican Academies of Sciences unite in their ranks the most outstanding scientists in a particular field of science. The corresponding member of MADUTIK is Ph.D., associate professor Ayapbergenov B.K., corresponding member of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan - prof. Akosheva M.K.

In different years, teachers of the department were awarded the title of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Best University Teacher”, also among the teachers of the department - Laureates of the state prize named after Y. Altynsarin.

As is known, a quantitative characteristic of the productivity of scientists, a scientific organization, based on the number of works - publications and the number of citations of these publications, is the Hirsch index. Today, the teachers of the department have the Hirsch index (SCOPUS) Tleulesova A.Sh., Akhmetova B.Z.,Akosheva M.K.,Tuksaitova R.O.,  Imanberdieva S.K.,  Kurmanova Z.K., Albekova A. Sh. and etc.

The degree of the department is 80%.

Representatives of the older generation of the department skillfully pass on their experience and knowledge to future scientists: senior teachers of the department Kazhgalieva A.M., Akazhanova A.A., having successfully passed the entrance exams, entered and completed PhD doctoral studies on a grant basis at universities in Kazakhstan.



Department history

The history of the Department of Kazakh and Russian Languages begins in 1990: it was in this year that the Department of the Kazakh language was first established at the Tselinograd Agricultural Institute. 

 After the division of the Department of World Languages in 2008, the Department of Russian and German Languages was established.

In 2012, two departments - the Department of the Kazakh Language and the Department of Russian and German Languages – were transformed into the Department of Kazakh and Russian Languages.

Since the foundation of the department until 2004, the department was headed by A.K.Kozhakhmetova.

In 2008-2011, the department was headed by Doctor of Philology, Professor R.O. Tuksaitova.

In subsequent years, the Department of Kazakh and Russian languages was headed by candidates of Philological sciences, ass. professors Albekova A.Sh., senior lecturer Sergazina K.Zh., candidates of Philological sciences Nasieva N.K., candidates of Philological sciences Kenzhemuratova S.K., candidates of Philological sciences Ayapberenov B.K.

Since 2019, the successful management of the Department of Kazakh and Russian languages has been carried out by Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Tleulesova Ardak Shaikenovna. 

Kazakh and Russian   languages Department has carried out a lot of organizational work in a short time, prepared a high-quality educational and methodological base for teaching the disciplines "Kazakh language", "Russian language", "Professional Kazakh language", "Professional Russian language".

Currently, the teaching staff of the department is represented by teachers of different generations who make a worthy contribution to the development of humanitarian education not only at the department, but also at the faculty as a whole, at the university.

 

EDUCATIONAL AND METHODICAL WORK

The department carries out educational and methodological work in accordance with the plan. When assessing students' knowledge, the department uses the following types of control: current, intermediate and final control, oral questioning, test method, combined exam.

The educational and material base of the department meets modern requirements.

The department has 6 classrooms equipped with the necessary equipment.

Teachers of the department systematically work to improve the quality of students' knowledge. This is achieved through holding training seminars, open lessons, and the widespread use of modern technologies and interactive teaching methods. In the distance learning format, the services ZOOM, Google Meet, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, the application for educational tests Kahoot, etc. are actively used.

Based on the new standard program, designed for 10 credits (300 hours), taking into account the trimester format of training, new educational teaching materials have been developed in both the Kazakh and Russian languages for levels A1, A2, B1, B2, C1. Thus, starting from the 2019-2020 academic year, work is carried out according to work programs drawn up on the basis of the Model Program, adapted for teaching by semester.

The provision of educational literature in the disciplines “Kazakh language”, “Russian language”, “Professional Kazakh language”, “Professional Russian language” is 100%.

Research work at the department

The teaching staff of the department takes an active part in republican and foreign conferences, seminars, and round tables. Scientific works of the department's teaching staff are published in scientific journals recommended by KOKSNVO MNERO RK, in materials of conferences in Kazakhstan and abroad.

Works of the department teachers Tleulesova A.Sh., Imanberdieva S.K., Ayapbergenov B.K., Akosheva M.K., Akhmetova B.Z., Kurmanova Z.K., Albekova A.Sh., Toksanbaeva T.Zh. , Amangeldy A.A. on current problems of science and education were published in foreign journals indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science databases.

The faculty of the department is successfully working on scientific projects based on the results

• Competition for grant funding for scientific projects for 2022-2024 (scientific supervisor, Doctor of Philological Sciences Imanberdieva S.K.),

• Competition for grant funding for scientific projects for 2023-2025 (scientific supervisor: Ph.D. Akhmetova B.Z.,  performers Tleulesova A.Sh., Akosheva M.K., Aldabergenova A.S.).

The projects were developed in such a priority direction of the development of science in Kazakhstan as “Research in the field of social and human sciences.”

In 2019-2021, the teaching staff of the department carried out a lot of work on the initiative topic “Linguistic features of the works of writers of Northern Kazakhstan.” Within the framework of this topic, articles have been published in leading journals in Kazakhstan, near and far abroad. A collection of articles on the topic of the initiative project has been published.

In 2022-2025, work is planned and carried out on the initiative topic “Linguistic ecology and culture of speech.”

INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC AND METHODOLOGICAL SEMINARS

Since 2019, it has become traditional to annually hold international scientific and methodological seminars, republican Olympiads, and republican poetry competitions for young talents. Here are some of them:

On January 14, 2020, as part of the “Rukhani Zhangyru” program and the 175th anniversary of the birth of Abai Kunanbayev, the Department of Kazakh and Russian Languages, together with the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, held a scientific seminar “Abai – poet, thinker, translator”.

On June 4, 2020, under the scientific leadership of Ardak Shaikenovna Tleulesova, an online educational and methodological seminar “Distance educational technologies in the educational process” was organized with the participation of teachers from foreign and national universities. The purpose of the educational and methodological seminar is to exchange experience with domestic and foreign scientists and methodologists on the use of distance learning technologies in the educational process. The participants of the seminar were professors from Khobda University in Bayan-Ulgi Zhylkyaidar Khinalgan (Mongolia); Bashkir GPU Nabiullina G.M.; Tashkent Agrotechnical University Abdullaeva U.T.; University named after Baisheva Isina Zh. A.; Pavlodar State Pedagogical University Kenenbaevna M.A.; Center for Multilingualism of the National Academy of Education T.Zh. Toksanbaeva, as well as teachers of KazATU named after. S. Seifullina.

On December 23, 2020, the International scientific and methodological seminar “DISTANCE LEARNING: ORGANIZATION, MANAGEMENT AND MODELS” // “DISTANCE LEARNING: ORGANIZATION, MANAGEMENT AND MODELS” was held with the participation of foreign and domestic methodological scientists. The purpose of the seminar was to discuss current issues of distance learning and exchange best practices.

Colleagues from foreign countries took part in the scientific and methodological seminar: Tashkent State Agrarian University (Uzbekistan); National Education Resource Center of Bashkortostan (RF); Khobd University (Mongolia), Karakalpak State Pedagogical Institute named after. Azhiniyaza (Uzbekistan). Foreign guests shared their experiences related to organizing distance learning.Kazakh scientists from universities such as Pavlodar State Pedagogical University, West Kazakhstan Medical University named after. M. Ospanova and others.

On January 19, 2024, in order to exchange experience with foreign scientists, the department with the participation of scientists from the Nukus State Pedagogical Institute named after. Ajiniyaza (Karakalpakstan) a seminar was organized and held on the topic: “Modern paradigms of language teaching methods.” At the seminar, a welcoming speech was given by the Director of the Department of Academic Affairs, J.S. Zhurgenov, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities Zh.T. Kulzhanova, head of the department of Kazakh and Russian languages A.Sh. Tleulesova.

During the seminar, scientists from the Nukus State Pedagogical Institute named after. Ajiniyaza H.K. Allambergenov, T.A. Tortkulbaeva, G.Zh. Allamuratova made reports that touched on current problems of using new technologies in teaching Kazakh, Karakalpak and English languages.

Also at the seminar, scientists from KazATIU named after. S.Seifullina Ph.D. M.T. Abikenov, Ph.D. B.Z. Akhmetova. At the end of the seminar, the head of the department of Kazakh and Russian languages, Ph.D., associate professor A.Sh. Tleulesova expressed gratitude to foreign scientists, emphasizing the need for such events and the importance of the memorandum on scientific cooperation between universities.

Olympiads in Kazakh and Russian languages

The holding of intra-university and republican Olympiads in the Kazakh and Russian languages for students and schoolchildren has become systematic.

On February 14, 2020, the Republican Olympiad in the Russian language for Kazakh schools and the Kazakh language for Russian schools of the republic was held. The Olympics took place in 2 rounds. Like all department events, the Olympiad resulted in a large-scale knowledge competition. During the preparation of the Olympiad, the head of the department was Tleulesova A.Sh. directed efforts to ensure that the program included not only competitive tests on language knowledge, meetings with students, excursions to academic buildings and university libraries. Participants of the Olympiad were given the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and talents, get to know KazATU named after. S.Seifullina.

More than 130 schoolchildren from the capital, Pavlodar, Karaganda, Kostanay, Kokshetau, Arkalyk, Ekibastuz, Stepnogorsk and other cities of Kazakhstan took part in the Olympics. The winners were awarded with diplomas and certificates. Teachers who prepared schoolchildren for the Olympics were also awarded letters of gratitude. Schoolchildren showed great interest in KazATU, expressed a desire to study here, and were interested in the specialties of the university.

In the 2021-2022, 2022-2023 academic years, the department held olympiads in the Russian language for Kazakh schools and the Kazakh language for Russian schools among students of the Akmola region. The Olympics were held in 2 rounds. The advantage is that you can trace the work with students within the region - Akmola region. Just as before, the program included not only competitive tests on knowledge of the Kazakh and Russian languages, but also meetings with students, excursions to academic buildings, laboratories, and libraries of the university

The Olympiad is planned for subsequent academic years.

The department implements career guidance work through the educational process, working with students both outside and within the university.

 

Educational work with students

For the purpose of moral and patriotic education of students, it has become traditional to hold events with the participation of students, these are various meetings, round tables, conversations, open lectures, debates.

The annual Republican Competition of Young Poets has become a tradition.

In November 2019, the First Republican Competition of Young Poets was held.

In November 2020, the 2nd Republican competition of young poets “MEN - KAZAKPYN, BIKPIN, BAYTAK ELMIN”, dedicated to the 126th anniversary of Saken Seifullin and the 100th anniversary of Zhuban Moldagaliev, took part, in which young talents from different universities of Kazakhstan took part.

On November 5, 2021, the III Republican competition of young poets “Uly dala uni” was held, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the 127th anniversary of the birth of Saken Seifullin. The purpose of the competition is to identify the most creative, thoughtful, promising young people armed with knowledge from among young people.

The department staff continues to carry out targeted educational work with students. Every year, the department actively participates in the preparation and celebration of national holidays of the country, such as “Independence Day”, “Nauryz”, “Victory Day”, “Constitution Day”, holds events, shows, and curatorial hours of various topics, volumes, nature and direction , lectures for students on the topics: “The Constitution is the fundamental law of the country”, “The Path to Independence”, “Victory Day”, “State symbols of Kazakhstan”.

In 2022-2023, teachers of the department, within the framework of program materials of the President of the country K.K. Tokayev, took an active part in conducting introductory lectures in student dormitories; educational events were held: a round table “Tolerance is an important factor in the training and education of the younger generation” (Tuksaitova R.O., Omarova G.T., Albekova A.Sh.), a conversation “Language is evidence of originality” (Tuleuzhanova Zh.M., Аkazhanova A.), business game “Experts” (Language Week) (Kukenova G.A.), “Language is the wealth of the people” (Omarova G.T., Aldabergenova A.S.), “Knowledge is the road to the future” (Z. K. Kurmanova) and many others.

In the 2023-2024 academic year, it is also planned to conduct educational events in the wake of the Messages of the President of Kazakhstan K.K. Tokayev: conversations “Modern effective state” (Tleulesova A.Sh., A.S. Aldabergenova), “New stage of social modernization” (A .Sh. Nurzhanova, M.K. Akosheva), “Ensuring the rights and safety of citizens” (T.K. Balken, Z.K. Kurmanova) and many others.

It has become a tradition to annually hold intra-university subject Olympiads in the Kazakh and Russian languages with the participation of 1st year students.

In accordance with the plan, the teaching staff supervises the research work of students (responsible - Kenzhitaeva Zh.L.).

With the assistance of the department's teachers, students of all faculties take an active part in the traditional scientific conference "Seifullin Readings", making presentations at sectional classes (scientific supervision is carried out by the department's teachers).

   Active supervisory work at various faculties of the university is carried out by teachers of the department. Their work is structured in accordance with the University Regulations “On the Curator of the Academic Group”. When conducting curatorial hours, information and analytical materials on current issues in the life of the country are used; issues of the quality of knowledge and class attendance are constantly monitored.

On the basis of the department, during the academic year, clubs that unite university students based on their interests continue to work: “Daryndy Zhastar” (headed by Balken T.K., Abikenov M.T.), “Rukhaniyat” (headed by Toksanbayeva T.Zh.), etc. As part of the work of the clubs, various thematic events are planned on current topics of our time: debates, competitions, round tables.

Currently, the department is carrying out targeted work to improve the quality of teaching and education of students, is actively working on the problems of comparative and typological research of differently structured languages - Kazakh and Russian, the theory and practice of translation, intercultural communication, etc. All this indicates the proper level of development of humanitarian thought in department and the faculty as a whole.
